Call for Abstracts:

Over the years, numerous organisations have concluded that it is necessary to develop a coordinated approach and work with partners in both medical and community sectors with strategy from primary, secondary and tertiary health providers as well as partners in local government and education. This Conference completely supports such collaborations and offers the opportunity for professionals to submit abstracts for presentation at the Conference as oral and poster presentations.

The Organisers invite the submission of abstracts on all aspects of weight managment and obesity. Case reports are also encouraged. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference Programme and Abstract Book.

Free papers and posters present an excellent opportunity to stimulate debate, raise issues or highlight quality work being carried out by teams or individuals. They can be used as a mechanism to reach a wider audience whilst both motivating colleagues and challenging their thinking. Material can be either research or practice-led.

  • All submissions will be subject to review and must be received by 28th February 2008
  • Authors will be notified of the results by 15th March 2008
  • All abstracts will be acknowledged by the Conference Secretariat
  • All presenters must register as FULL Conference delegates - ie NOT Day delegates.

It is very important that you read the Guidelines which can be viewed here as a pdf before submitting your abstracts

Aim of the Conference

In the light of recent news that negative trends are increasing as regards obesity and health, the aim of the 2008 Conference is to challenge how our professions are progressing in managing obesity and managing weight gain. The Conference will ask where the gaps are in our knowledge and techniques through to communication with and motivation of those heading towards obesity.

The Conference will be occasionally provocative to create debate and challenge our performances, design of ‘service' and responsibilities.

The Conference will provide a comprehensive programme to help professionals who are involved in obesity to identify what the best solutions are currently considered to be and what best visions and strategic developments are likely to work in the future.

The 2008 programme will offer a range of interventions for Community and Primary Care professionals to help prevent overweight and obese children and young people; describe weight management programmes for all age groups through to protocols promoting the importance of maintaining a healthy weight throughout various life stages.

We know that the Obesity and Health Conference is relevant because it is so warmly welcomed by those working in the prevention and management of obesity year on year.
